Privacy Policy

Vioday — Your Daily Ritual

The short version: Vioday stores your personal data — your name, journal entries, events, and chat history — only on your own device. We do not run servers that store your data. We never sell your information. Two features send limited data to trusted services to function: AI chat and weather.

1. Who we are

Vioday ("we", "us", or "the app") is an iOS application created by Justin Shim. This policy explains what information the app handles and how.

2. Information stored on your device

The following information is stored only on your device using your phone's local storage. It is never uploaded to a server we control:

Your name — used to personalize greetings.
Wake and bed times — used to schedule reminders.
Journal entries — your morning and evening notes.
Events and schedule — items you add to your day.
Achievement check-ins — whether you completed your events.
Chat history with Vio — your conversations with the AI companion.
Streak and usage data — to show your daily streak.
Feature preferences — which cards you choose to show or hide.

Because this data lives only on your device, deleting the app removes all of it. We cannot recover it for you.

3. Information sent to third-party services

Two features require sending limited data to external services so they can work:

3.1 AI Chat (Vio)

When you chat with Vio or receive personalized messages, the relevant text — your message, recent journal entries, and today's events — is sent to Anthropic (the company behind the Claude AI model) to generate a response. This data is processed to create Vio's reply. We do not store this data on our own servers. Anthropic's handling of API data is governed by their privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

3.2 Weather

To show local weather, the app sends your location (city name or coordinates) to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, at open-meteo.com. This is used only to retrieve a forecast and is not stored by us.

4. Permissions the app requests

Location — used only to fetch local weather. You can decline; weather simply won't show.
Calendar — if you enable Apple Calendar sync, the app reads your calendar events to display them alongside your day. It reads only; it never modifies your calendar. This data stays on your device.
Notifications — used to send the morning and evening reminders you opt into.

All permissions are optional. You can decline or revoke them anytime in your device Settings.

5. Children's privacy

Vioday is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

6. Data security

Because your personal data is stored locally on your device, its security depends on your device's own protections (passcode, encryption). Data sent to Anthropic and Open-Meteo is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

7. Your choices

You can delete all your data anytime using "Reset everything" in the app's Settings.
You can turn off any feature (including AI chat, weather, and calendar sync) in Settings.
Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
